When did Lüm-Tec began?
Lüm-Tec began at around September 2008 with just 6 models. The M chronograph (M1-M5) and Combat B1 series were sold-out in less than a year.
In 2009, they have grown their production pieces from a previous 825 pieces to about 3400 watches!
Who owns Lüm-Tec?
Chris Wiegand of course! also known as "Ray Knight" in many watch forums. He has been doing custom reluming for many Panerai homages and other watches for watch collectors for a few years before starting out on the brand Lüm-Tec.
So what is all the rage about Lüm-Tec timepieces?
Ahhh...that's THE most important and burning question to ask.
Lüm-Tec is all about making high quality watches that is typically thought impossible without spending thousands of dollars. In other words, you are getting a watch that would normally costs you above 4-5k for the same movement and case material.
Furthermore, their proprietary MDV® technology is really one of the brightest luminescent application you can possibly find on a watch in the market.
Each model is also highly limited, between 50-400 pieces WORLDWIDE, so you can be guaranteed that the chances of another person wearing the same watch is very low.
By the way, did we also mention that MDV® is constantly being research and improvised? Also, their source for designs and features are gathered through customers' feedbacks on watch forums and polls.
You are getting all of these are a fraction of a cost as compared to some popular high end brands!
Where are Lüm-Tec watches made anyway?
Lüm-Tec watches are assembled and tested in Ohio, USA (home of Wiegand's watch workshop). Parts are sourced from all over the world, using only the highest quality. Countries include Switzerland for movements, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan. Where indicated, some models are entirely made in Switzerland!
How are the lume on Lüm-Tec watches charged?
We are in the process of making a video of this. But in short, two sources to get it charged up well.
1. Natural Sunlight: This is by far the best source of charing the lume. Just 2-3 hours of good sunlight will give your Lüm-Tec watch a good overnight visibility glow of over 8 hours. (Note that: Special Grade A C3 green/yellow glow will appear brighter than Special Grade A OY3 orange or blue glow due to the nature of the color)
2. UV Blacklight: This is usually the light used to scan for counterfeit currency notes. It immediately charges up the lume but the decay life of the lume is also much shorter.
3. Normal LED light: This is also possible to charge it up; though it might take a longer time and may not exhibit fully the glow effect.
What is the warranty for Lüm-Tec watches?
1-year international warranty against manufacturing defects.
Otherwise, typical service charge beings from S$120 excluding parts replacement if any.
Where do most of the money goes to when buying Lüm-Tec watches?
Most of what you paid for goes into the manufacturing of the watch itself:- that is, the case material, case finishing, dial making, movements, straps and bracelets, and of course the labor hours in assembling the watch.
Very little of your money goes to advertising or endorsing. This is the reason why the Lüm-Tec watch boxes, warranty certificates and cards come in the most simplest form. TO KEEP THE PRICE LOW!
